Starting Off
If you have just started scrolling and want a semi easy but semi hard pattern I've tried to find one that meets this description. http://www.rbiwoodtools.com/Resources/Whale_Puzzle.pdf
Getting the cut you want
Still having problems with getting the type of cuts you want? Only thing I can say is to keep trying and don't give up you'll get it. I found this video on http://www.scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/ by Steve Good, which is a very helpful blog. Watch this video and watch his technique.

Selecting a Scroll saw
When selecting a scroll saw don't just go buy the cheapest one you can get your hands on. I have the Dewalt 788 and I love it. I was going to go buy the cheapest one I could get my hands on. To tell you the truth, I probably wouldn't enjoy scrolling as much as I do if I didn't wait and save my money. In my opinion there are three main points in looking for a scroll saw. One is vibration. Vibration can ruin any project your working on because it will cause it to splinter and give you a less precise cut. Second is what kind of blades it uses and how easy it is to remove the blades. For one, they do break often, and most of the projects you do you will have to drill a hole and slide the blade up through the hole to complete your cut. Therefore you need to have one that uses straight end blades. Going back to removing the blades, you DO NOT want one that uses a tool to change the blades. Third is the size of the table. You will want one big enough to accommodate your project. Other things to look at is the length of the dust blower and an optional light. Check out this link for the Dewalt 788. http://www.woodworking-news.com/woodworking_tool_reviews_dewalt_dw788%20.shtml
Deer Scene
If you like deer scenes then you need to give this pattern a try. I found this pattern at the Hawk Wood Working Tools site. http://www.rbiwoodtools.com/Resources/Deer_Silhouette.pdf
Pencil Holder
Need a pencil holder. Well with this free pattern you can make your own click this link http://www.freewoodpuzzles.com/pencilholder.html and get directions on how to create your own. My personal note- I Like to just stain the wood rather than painting it.
