When selecting a scroll saw don't just go buy the cheapest one you can get your hands on. I have the Dewalt 788 and I love it. I was going to go buy the cheapest one I could get my hands on. To tell you the truth, I probably wouldn't enjoy scrolling as much as I do if I didn't wait and save my money. In my opinion there are three main points in looking for a scroll saw. One is vibration. Vibration can ruin any project your working on because it will cause it to splinter and give you a less precise cut. Second is what kind of blades it uses and how easy it is to remove the blades. For one, they do break often, and most of the projects you do you will have to drill a hole and slide the blade up through the hole to complete your cut. Therefore you need to have one that uses straight end blades. Going back to removing the blades, you DO NOT want one that uses a tool to change the blades. Third is the size of the table. You will want one big enough to accommodate your project. Other things to look at is the length of the dust blower and an optional light.
